Full of ‘I want,
I want,’
But turned
Towards it,
First time ever
Accepted this
Insistent visitor
With equanimity,
‘Welcome friend,
It’s natural
For you
To be here;’
And then
I fed
The daemon
To satisfaction.
Resting in
The fulfillment
That followed
The tasty meal,
The calm and quiet
That made me feel
So contented
And at ease,
The gaping mouth
So effortless to sate,
Such a surprise
Given the intensity
In the shark’s eyes;
But with a little sadness too
For, oh, what perils and fires
This denizen of the deep
Has had to swim through
Over the years.
